converting a bravo to #6???
I just boat a project boat that is rigged with triple bravo's. The center drive is missing and all the motors are gone. The boat had 575's. I am wanting to put bigger motors and I own a pair of rebuilt #6's. What all is involved in the conversion?
Thanks!! |
Re: converting a bravo to #6???
Hey Mcraymond, If you want to sell those Bravo's please PM me.

Re: converting a bravo to #6???
Depending on the boat - I would just reglass the original holes closed ( best to just replace the transom ) and recut for stagerd #6's. then build two big Cube motors.

Re: converting a bravo to #6???
The boat is a 2001 Cig. 46. I thought about staggered but then you have to replace all gauges, dash, throttles, etc. Who does this kind of work anyways?

MCRaymond:
Retrofitting #6s is a mondo project, especially with triples. You need to make sure you have room to move the center motor forward (they all have to go forward), there's a lot of realigning involved, your transom will never be the same....better off trading for a #6 boat and repower any way you want. Let me know if you want to sell the #6s, though. Trannies included? |
Re: converting a bravo to #6???
going from a tripple bravo isnt that bad just reglass the transom and make sure it is thick enough. to get the transom redone I just did it in a 40' hustler with tripps and now with going to some bigger dirves had it all replaced, removed old transom built up ne glassed in, had some extras done in the engine compartment as welll, along with the engine compartment redone in white gelcoat. took a couple of months from unrigging to getting it out of the shop,(would have been done sooner but started this in August, glass shop was swamped). Hardest part was un rigging the transom (1995 model). Now that that part is done its time to cut out the mount holes and such and rerig with everything. Only problem that I forsaw was the use of trannys and the lenght of motors all mounted together. the drives I am going to run with boxes will allow me to place the tranny in the box not move my motors but a couple of inches. it is a tripple bravo to bigger drive set up. lots of measuring and I am sure that you can call and ask some of oso's advertisers what they think it would run you to do it. Or get it all stripped and the glass work done then find somebody to cut away.

I would suggest calling Tres Martin at Martin marine. You need to talk with someone about this who has rigged a lot of cigarettes and he would be a great place to start. |
Re: converting a bravo to #6???
Tres @ Martin Marine
Jonny @ TNT Jim & Doug @ Saber marine Jim Dyke @ Platinum powerboats They can all do it it's just if you want to spend the money. Nothing is ment by the order posted. Nauti Kitty on the board did his 41' Saber last year. Went from a tripple bravo to staggered #6's. Seems to be very happy and very fast. Cougarman |
Re: converting a bravo to #6???
If you like the boat it is worth doing...We did it last year to our Slingshot and it turned out great. If you put big power or have a heavy boat you need big drives...We put rebuilt #6's on ours when we put the big motors in. The engines had to be moved 9 in's forward and 3 in's up (still side by side). We bought new trannys, and gimbles. Now we don't play the drive game anymore. We had Dan at Archer Marine with Pat Wiesman line up and do our re-rig (over here on the left coast). Good luck.

Clearcut3,
The gladiator is still for sale. I have two people interested in it. We are just 20k away from a deal. I have contacted Tres and I will post some pics as soon. |

Re: converting a bravo to #6???
Why does it look like the stbd. drive is farther back than the port?

Re: converting a bravo to #6???
mc, i've done this job before, so long as the transom is not wet, it's not really necessary to replace the transom for it would add drastically to the over all cost of a re-rig of this caliber. If you need parts or power I happen to have a 39 Aronow for sale with every thing you might need.Additionally i would have interest in tackling a job like this one, being all we do in our facility is new and re-rig's. gimme a call either way I just may be able to help you.

Re: converting a bravo to #6???
Tres martin re-rigged my Black Thunder from Bravos to #5's. Total cost of labor was about 25k. Total with engines (self Built) was close to 65k. Transom was already glassed and cut when delivered to Tres. You might also want to contact Steve Emmons @ Total Marine and Performance in Slidell, LA. They do excellent work and stand behind it.

Re: converting a bravo to #6???
Why not just dump the Bravos and go to Konrad Drives?

Re: converting a bravo to #6???
imco's 4x4 are rated pretty high on the power, and have the tranny's in the box. and are faster, hydrodynamicly, in the water than a 5 or 6 because of surface area. plus with all the 5 & 6 blade prop's around today you probably wont run out of prop.
