More Horse Power
What is the best way to get more hp out of a Gen6 HP500 with out loosing its liability and durability?

Re: More Horse Power
Whipple Charger or pro charger.

Re: More Horse Power
I want to stay away from the chargers. There has to be easier ways then that?

Re: More Horse Power
A set of AFR 305 CNC ported heads and a custom cam.
That's the best option unless you want to start spinning it 6000rpm. Chargers are still the best option period. Massive bang for the buck and virtually the same "liability and durability" as stock (at 4 psi boost levels). |
Re: More Horse Power
ActiveMike,
I agree with Mc. If you don't want a supercharger then a good set of heads like the AFR 315 cnc ported heads, custom cam and a good set of headers. With HP500's you should already have a decent breathing exhaust so your half way there already! :) |
Re: More Horse Power
Guy's thanks for the feed back. Whats the max hp that you want to put through a Bravo 1 before worrying about putting it into pieces? I want a boat that I run not work on all summer long.

I wouldnt trust a B1 with anything above 550ish. You can get away with it higher if you take her easy coming out and if you keep it in the water most :D of the time. I did have a buddy who Prochaged a 454 and it pushed through about 620HP. He blew that motor what seemed like every weekend but the drive lasted two or three years... this was on an inland lake in TN without extreme conditions and/or extreme driving though. |
Re: More Horse Power
Go easy on the throttles, no hole shots, throttle back when coming off a wave (airborne/re-entry). Change the drive lube at least every 20-25 hours minimum, and make sure you have adequate drive showers to keep the drive(s) cool. I use the Simrek "halo" drive shower. Also, replacing the stock Merc drive cap with an aftermarket billet drive cap would be a good thing as well.
