Carb Rust?
I Got My Carb Rebuilt A Couple Months Ago And I Noticed The Other Day The Flaps Inside The Carb Are Rusting Pretty Bad. What Can I Do To Prevent This Problem? Thanks.

Re: Carb Rust?
Take em out, beadblast them, prime them and epoxy paint them.
Or have them plated. Or make sure you aren't taking in salt spray thru the bilge vents. |
Re: Carb Rust?
your flame arrestor is probably leaking water into the top of your carb, use a rubber flat washer under the retainer washer, it'll probably help. or you just may have water in your fuel tank , and it's a problem over seen.

Re: Carb Rust?
Condensate may be occuring due to enviromental, storage or time of day that you run.
Plating, coating, varnish whatever to the surface of the parts. |
Re: Carb Rust?
Check your oil. It should NOT be milky.

Re: Carb Rust?
Flaps in the carb???
Oh, must mean the butterflies. Be careful if you decide to remove them for cleaning. Thy have to be installed exactly as they came out. The screws holding them in are staked at the factory to prevent them from coming loose. Will need to be re-staked after reassembly. Do not epoxy paint them they will never fit the bores again. If anything they need to be corrosion proofed and plated. |
Re: Carb Rust?
I was told that on some carbs like on outboards that they should not be placed in the gumout tank as it removes the protective coating, wonder if it happened to your butterfly's.

Re: Carb Rust?
I would probably just purchase a new carb base plate (plate at bottom of carb with throttle shafts and butterflies installed). Messing with the butterflies is asking for trouble. They have very tight toleraces to the bores. I would also take the excellent suggestions presented by others here for looking for the source of corrosion.

Re: Carb Rust?
I figured he was talking about the choke plates and secondary vacuum plates on a Qjet.
