Get a hold of DanB, he installed an nice a/c unit in his 35 Cig this year, and I'm sure he's got the info.

I've got a Formulat SR357 and the unit in my boat is a 9,000BTU reverse cycle made by King Marine Air in Ft Meyers (Mermaid Mfg. of Ft Meyers FL 941-418-0535, or 800-330-3553.. www.mmair.com ).

It's plenty of cooling and heating for the boat. I'd strongly recommend the reverse cycle--we have a few "nipply" nights even here in Florida.

Also--check out a device they have called a "condensator". It uses the raw water exchage to dispose of the condensate. It's unreal how much condensate is created and running thru the bilge is a PITA.

The mermaid unit has the most compact unit of the bunch and they inlcude a few niceties in the base price (digital thermostat)

a 5500BtU unit should be plenty big.

None of them will cool all that well if you leave the door open.
All of them will freeze you to death if you keep the door closed.

Combining a large unit with keeping the door open just creates drooling drippy places around the supply register(s).
