8.2 L 450 Hp ??
 

I just got off the phone with a person at www.repropower.com They have a motor listed that the person said is factory direct from Merc that is a 450 PSHP 502. She said it is an MPI engine. I asked if it was the 502 Mag MPI and she said no. Does anybody know what this engine is? It's not a HP500. Their price sounded great, 14K for a brand new, warrantied bobtail.

Few yrs ago I bought a 450hs/502 longblock, which ended up being the same as the 415hp 502mag. I thought that was the highest rated Merc 502 until you stepped up to the HP500. So I might question if the 450 pshp is correct?

Hey Dave,
I have seen that 450 HP Merc. advertised a few places, but not on Merc's web page.
GM Performance parts rates the 502HO to be 450HP at the crank.

The pervious mark5 502's were rated at 440 at the crank," Chevys rating" When the roller cam was added to mark6 Chevy rated them at 450, Mercruiser kept the 415 Propshaft rating for both engines however so that when the 496 came out it could exceed the 502 mag by a little in my opinion. The 496 has a little higher rev limit giving it an additional edge over the 502 mag.
