Can A GenV become 522's???

Can A GenV become 522's???

Presently I have a set of GenV HP500's
Does the block have enough meat on it to
safely be able to make them 522 cubic inch?
I'm either going to stroke them to 540's or take them out to 522's.
Anyone done this and with what kinda results - Reliability & Hp?
thanx

You can bore them to 4.560 bore which makes them 522s.That would be the limit.

What I would really like to know if it's worth changing rotating assemblies
for 540's or just go to 522cu?

it would depend on the condition of your blocks and how long they've been in salt water as to wether or not id want to bore it to the max. keep in mind stroke is torque and thats what we are all looking for. im building a pair or 427 tall decks 4.50 stroke 4.375 bore for 541 ci on a budget for back up motors. i have the # of a guy in sc that has a lot of brand new 427 tall decks blocks he got from a buss co. he's selling them for 400.00 each. i will bake mine at 550 degrees to season the block before i machine them. run a 4.50 stroke a +.400 rod and piston of your choice blown or n/a. a 1/4 inch of stroke you will feel seat of the pants a 1/2" would be even better. a lot of people will be repowering this winter used cranks can be pick up reasonably. i just bought a pair of 4.625 keith black billet std/std cranks from intense marine for 750. ea. he has a crower 4.500 stroke crank he wants 800. for but you can probably talk him down a bit, then buy a new a one to match it, chief engines has manley rods for 475. a set. callies now makes a dragon slayer forged crank but only 4.25 stroke max @ this time although they a planning to sell 4.50 stroke soon. kevin at hawk will sell them new for under 900. bucks. shop around there are deals to be had call the big builders to see what you can find. good luck with it

I believe that this is not advisable. Those 502 blocks don't have enough material for that bore size and still have .400 cylinder wall thickness left to protect against porosities.

I have 7 engines running gen 5or 6 blocks @ 4.560 bore all super charged. I have seen no problems with the bores moving around, porosity. or sealing. This boat of BJs has a 522 in it with about 120 hours of pleasure boating on it and 3 boat races on it. It is supercharged also.

go to 516ci so you still have a rebuild left in them.

Sounds good. Here is what GM says about their genVI block. I can't find their recommendations on genV, I will keep looking.

10237292 Bare Block "502"
This Gen VI cast iron block is a strong foundation for a big-block engine project. The "short-deck" block was designed to meet the needs of a powerful and dependable 500cid engine for street or boat usage. The block's cylinder walls are "siamesed" and are bored to 4.47". The deck surfaces are reinforced to improve the head gasket sealing. Four-bolt main bearing caps are installed to reinforce cylinder barrels and add strength to the bottom end.

Technical Notes: The distance from the crankshaft centerline to the deck surfaces is 9.80". It is used on 502 engines assembly, and partial engine. and can use roller tappet or stndard tappet. Casting P/N 10237300. Maximum over bore is 4.500".
