oil / power steering cooler replacement ?'s

I have a Gen IV 454 / 420 that I think the power steering / oil cooler may have let go (power steering side). Few ?'s:

- I would like to purge the power steering fluid, refill and test. What is the best way to get all the fluid out?

- If the cooler need to be replaced, how do the oil lines w/ fittings come off?

- Should I just get another stock Merc cooler, I don't want conversion headaches, so that is what I am thinking.

For ease I would stick with the stock part. They are adequately sized and hold up fairly well. You can flush by removing the return line at the back of the pump and letting it pump into a container. Just make sure you keep pouring in new fluid as fast as it is pumping out ( 2 person job). 3 quarts is enough for most units.

Oh yeah, it should just have standard double flare line fittings at the cooler-make sure you use proper line wrenches so you don't ruin the fitting nuts.
