1000+ HP What muffler- Outlaws??
Has anyone used the Livorsi Outlaw Mufflers? I need something in a 4 1/2" clamp-on that can handle 1000+HP and bring the decibels to a reasonable level without killing HP. I'm not worried about noise laws yet, I just can't handle 100+ decibels at idle, and 120 decibels at cruise speed. I can however handle 120+ decibels at WOT, god knows I'm not there as often as I would like.

Re: 1000+ HP What muffler- Outlaws??
I had recently swapped out my Gaffrig switchable mufflers with the GGB full time mufflers. They really take the bark out at idle and give it a nice tone up top.
I am extremely pleased with the GGB's. We passed the decibel test and I'm still pulling 5600 wot. Check 'em out www.ggb.ca Kurt |

Since my swim platform covers the muffers, looks are not as big an issue. How did the GGB's compare on the decible meter? Also have you ever dynoed the motors with these mufflers?

No I have not dyno'd the motors but I was surprised and glad to see that we did not lose any rpm.
Graham at GGB has done extensive dyno testing during develpoment of his mufflers and has shown that there is actually an increase in mid-range torque with the GGB mufflers installed. The GGB mufflers were @ 5-8 db less than the Gaffrigs (in the closed position) another huge benefit as the Gaffrigs should not be closed above 3000 rpm. Kurt |

You might want to check out the clamp on version of the Imco Gatlins. (Gat 72). Nice looking. Definitely not clunky and made for high HP. You can get them with or without the eyebrow. I have the clamp on without the eyebrow.

Re: 1000+ HP What muffler- Outlaws??
Biggus.... post #3 has a different muffler than post #5. Are the mufflers in post #5, a full time muffler?
I also need a quieter muffler than the shotguns, but I don't want to go to a full time muffler. They are nice around the dock, aspecially when you first fire up the engines and scare the $hit out of all the people sitting on their boats around you. :p |
Re: 1000+ HP What muffler- Outlaws??
Post #3 is the outlaw and #5 is the GGB. GGB's are full time, but don't kill HP. I think it’s the way I'm going, as the Outlaws are big, complex and expensive. GGB will also put turn downs on the end as an option. With the turn downs, I should be able to pass any decibel meter even with 1000HP.
