Who's the best at reprogramming ECU's

Hey Guys--

I have some 502 Mags that I am going to go thru this winter and refresh. Along the way I am going to install different cams and I need to know who is the best at reflashing the ECU for modifications. My motors are Gen 6. I already have CMI headers. I will also most likely be going to aluminum heads to gain some power. The stock heads are not bad, but I can buy some bolt on aluminum heads that already have the good valves and flow alot better than the stockers.

Let hear who's the best !!!!

Bigwavzs,

Try Ron Harris at Livorsi. They're over in Grayslake. He does the units for their coolcharger systems. BTW, you might remember me from the River Shiver in 2003. I've got the 27' Fountain with a Whippled 502, CMI's, Teague heads, etc. Also, please consider our club, Northern IL Offshore Club.

Best Regards,

Mark S.

Bigwavs goto www.azspeed-marine.com from what I understand they have done a lot of reprograming on the 502 mpi's.

Breath later "Mark" stay tuned next spring for bigger better things than nioc. Some
of us are planning the fun minus Bruces BI Laws.

Mark,

I will call Ron. Hey we missed you at the Shiver this year. It was a blast. They had a guy taking digital pics. I got some awesome shots of my boat. It was a great way to end the season as I have sold my boat. I have moved up to a 36 Outlaw. When I am done hopefully I will be able outrun Ya :D :D

See Ya on the water in 2005 !!!!!

i have had my ecm's done by Jim at azsm and had problems with them ,sent them back 2 times ,His fix  just richend the fuel map all the way thru it . The boat slowed down, I gave up on him.Just ask around and do a search on Arizona here.

On my new project Mark at Precision Marine is going to program and dyno My engines .His is real helpfull and is not short with ya on the phone like most.

Re: Who's the best at reprogramming ECU's

My advise, talk to the reprogrammers before you buy your parts! Each reprogrammer mentioned above has their own idea about how the engienshould be modified for the best results. These builders reprogram the ECU's knowing what has been done. If you build them up, and simple tell them what you did, it may be different than what they would have done in the past. Witch in turn may complicate the reprogramming!

So if I were you, and I was last year making calls and researching, go with the builder that has a proven package and change what they suggest! That way you know it will work, and if there are any questions, you will be less likely to be left out in the cold!

True . Most of them you talk to have a basic program for different engine combinations , if you do something different[complicated] from what they have done . They usually need to tune it in the boat.Like they say keep it simple and don't spend all summer tunning :(

Re: Who's the best at reprogramming ECU's

Mark Boos at Precision Marine (504) 469-7463 was the only one who could correct the fuel mapping after adding ProChargers on 350MAG MPI's. No more fouled plugs or black transoms!

i had azsm do one last summer it had to be sent back 5 times before it was right wasted alot of time & $$ putting bolt ons that they said it needed & removing eng to change cam timing cause of them

Re: Who's the best at reprogramming ECU's

If you want it done right, you need to program in the boat. Anything less will be quicker, but not perfect. Jason at Performance Marine in Bolton Landing NY, programmed mine while I was driving and it's right on the money. With the right equipment many of these guys can do the same, it just costs more.

Talk with George at Marine Performance Products (630) 240-5401. He has the Diacom software to record what it is dong currently and then can send the results along with the ECM to Mark Boos at Precision Marine.

Re: Who's the best at reprogramming ECU's

You would be surprise who actually does the reprograming of ECU's. I personally saw Mark Boos (Precision Marine) do one this afternoon from Calf. I lot of fokes say they do it and the ship it somewhere else. Skip the middle men and talk to him. Tell him Moonman sent you.

Aren't there only 4 that are actually authorized by Merc to reprogram? Tyler Crocket, ASM, Precision and Whipple?

Smitty 12-10-2004 07:41 AM

Re: Who's the best at reprogramming ECU's

Searay Jim--

What you said appears to be true. Question is who's the best. I am fairly close in distance to Tyler Crockett so I think I will try him. I would give Mark a shot based on all the good press, but the distance is too great and I agree the best job is done in the boat while running/underway.
