Re: Painting 500efi's block & heads

I just ordered the Polished 3.3 stage 3 Whipples today from Mark at Precesion Marine . yall are 50/50 on black or Blue.

The only thing now will be the valve covers and pullys that are blue, I think the whipple pullys are black now it would be nice if they where polished also.

Need more input???

thanks
Rob :D

I own a collision center, and have painted many motors. I can tell you from experience, that if you wash your engine parts with soap and water, I use Dawn , and use a two part epoxy primer, you can then base clear with any color you want. I have never had a problem with pealing, even in my hot rods. With clear coats, you will be able to clean your engine much easier and they will always shine like the day you painted them!

I tend to lean AWAY from any of the dark colors especially
black. They absorb alot of light, and lets face it Marine
engines do require some up keep.

So the easier it is to see, be it cleaning them or
changing plugs etc., your brighter colors pay off.

I attached a picture, you can see the light colors radiate with
light. And the dark colors all around the engines steal the light.

strip, sounds a bit boring... how about a orange to yellow fade out that matches the exterior colors of your hull (aka hole) i'd fade from yellow down to orange. thet benifit of a lighter color is you can spot any leaks easily, i't will look trick as h*ll, everyone will know it's not a stocker, but a custom engine, hugetime will be green with envy :D , young big breasted hotties will want to mount er um meet you :bunny: . almost any good quality base coat clear coat paint product will handle the heat. (put a thermometer on the exterior surface of a black car on a hot summer day) the key is the use a acid wash self etching primer, then a good 2 component primer, scuff with 320 grit, then your base and your clearcoat. then sit back and pound a few cold ones :drink: . becreative bro. just my .02. ratman. oh almost forgot... porn rules  :evilb:

Rob..... The blue ALWAYS looks good, but if you want to be a little different, try a wild color.
Last summer we redid the power in a 50 Nortech, triple 850 S/C 540's. The owner wanted the engines painted REAL wild. The boat has every color you could ever imagine in it. So we painted the longblocks and valvecovers a tangerine orange pearl, pearl white pulleys, blue carbs, green brackets, yellow accesories, some things were purple, man it was real wild. He LOVED it !!!
But the orange tangerine pearl looks real good, but, you need to have orange in the boat somewhere.
We got the idea from the painter. He has a 8 second 69 nova that he runs in that 10.5" tire class, and he painted the whole car that color. The engine too. It looks great.
My brother has the pics of the nova/eng. I'll get him to post them later. I don't have any pics of the engines in the boat, but I did find some of the boat..........Frank

Frank now thats a paint job

I have the 500efi blue valve covers. I guess I could do some thing with them?

I wonder how a different color would look with the polished Whipples?

Re: Painting 500efi's block & heads

I say do them blue, and leave the valve covers with that polished section on the top of the valve covers alone, that and the polished whipples will give a super clean look to it. Maybe call the boys at VSI and get some braided lines. If you can polish the pulleys cool. OR depending how deep you want to dig into the change purse. maybe billet pulleys with serpentine belts??...Rob
