Re: Best Aluminum heads
I ran some Big Chief 14 deg done by Sonny Leonard for a few years in a pleasure boat. When you get a good port job these things will move some serious air. Problem is that since the lifters are offset, you get into lifter bore wear issues, valves and pushrods are very long, you run Titanium valves on the intake side to keep the weight down, due to the valve train weight they are harder on lifters and springs, rockers seem to have more problems, on a side by side installation it gets tight between engines as the heads are so tall. They are a great cylinder head that work best on a race application. But in higher hp/rpm applications that needs lots of air I don't think they can be beat.

Bob If memory serves me I remember seeing complete kits in National Dragster. Nice Heads....Huh Bob? Sometimes I overlook the scope of practicality when one starts a pole asking for the best aluminum cylinder head. |
Re: Best Aluminum heads
What about the Canfield 310 CNC head on a 540 CI N/A? They have a setup you can order with Hard Anodizing and Inconnel valves. They appear to be alot cheaper than the ones above and flow pretty good? Does anyone have experience with them?

Re: Best Aluminum heads
I'm sure there's a reason.

Re: Best Aluminum heads
For out of the box cast ports the the BBC Canfield is the best bang for the buck. Of course when HVH design's something it will flow.

Chris Who is HVH? |
Re: Best Aluminum heads
HVH is Joe Petelle. He has forgotten more about airflow then most will ever know. He is one of the top cylinder head / intake manifold designers in the industry. Most of Brodix's manifolds have is Logo cast into them.
