formula31, your trailer may not have backing plates , but if you look there should be a small square plate welded to your axle with four holes where they can be added.

No, that is the part that I dont have. I mis-described what I was asking. That small square plate is what is not there.

Well, that sucks if that is the case. My axles had them. My new 3500lb axles were about $200 a peice, made by Quality Axle I think.

Might talk to a local semi-truck trailer repair place. They may can add on the plates.

Could be that you only need new spindles with the plate for the brake assembly to bolt to.

FYI, the drum brake assemblyies are standard; there is no marine versions. I bought 2 replacements for about $80. Pull the 4 bolts and brake line, bolt up the new, adjust and bleed the lines. Viola', done. :woohoo:
