Closed Cooling Diagram

I'm too lazy to figure it out otherwise than asking y'all but I want to back flush my closed cooling 496ho's. Which hoses do I disconnect to attach the water hose to and which do I undo to let the CRa_p out? Anyone with a diagram out there?

Thanks.

Re: Closed Cooling Diagram

I do not have a diagram available, but the easiest way I have found is, remove the lower hose on the right side of the main heat exchanger ( facing rearward). It is about 1 1/2" diameter. Find a suitable fitting that can be clamped in the hose. I found one at the local hardware store that would attach to a garden hose. Then remove the 2 blue drain plugs from the seawater pump. Turn on the water. I do this several times a year. you will be surprised how much debris will come out.

does that clear out the oil cooler and heat exchanger as well?

It will flush the oil cooler. The heat exchanger has plates on both ends that can be removed, and flushed by spraying water through it. I have rarely seen any debris here. Debris will usually stop at the oil cooler before it reaches the heat exchanger. In any case it only takes a few minutes to do both.
