OMC guys... new question. Changing shifters to Livorsi style.

Ok, considering leaving my points in the boat per the other thread.

New question:
I would rather have separate control levers for throttle/shift.

How hard would it be to switch. Could I possibly use my existing cables?

I caught your response on the other thread Ted.
Thanks.

The OMCs have a two piece cable.

Can I just replace the forward half?

if you're using a 33c style cable you can reuse them,if they are omc cables you cannot.if you plan on using a livorsi/gaffrig control it might cover the old hole.

I have the "new" OMC (red jacket) cables that were a past warranty issue.

Can I replace the forward half of the cable, but stop at the trunion located on the shift bracket, and use the OMC cable out the transom?

(They're Cobras)

Re: OMC guys... new question. Shifters.

I was gonna use Livorsi style controls if I can.

My current controls mount to a plate that covers the actual "hole."

Worst case scenario I could fabricate a new plate.

I'm just curious how extensive the overall project will be, and how far back I have to go with the new cable and still have everything balance out tension wise.

The adjustment on the existing cable is on the transom bracket. You don't adjust it at the trunion.

Can I stop at the shift cable trunion on the bracket? Doesn't seem like you would have to do the rear half if the forward half is right.
