Fast Cats, 22 thru 26

Curious who has the fastest 22 thru 26 cat, does Eliminator still hold the record?
This is just for fun, check out the competition, something to do while the boats are in storeage.

Re: Fast Cats, 25 & 26

I don't believe there is an official record for these type of boats. That being said the fastest one I have ever heard of is a DCB 26' and nearly 150 MPH!!! :D

GPM 12-25-2004 10:31 AM

Re: Fast Cats, 22 thru 26

I read Eliminator ran 144mph with a light layup 25 Daytona Paul Pfaff quad
rotor 598 and the Imco 4x4 drive. I don't remember if it was Hot Boat or Power Boat. That's moving in a 25, Wette Vette, changed to 22- 26 thought you might have some pictures.

Re: Fast Cats, 25 & 26

If I remember right there was an article in PowerBoat with an HTM doing around 150+, I have a friend that is currently building HTM SS24 W/ 708CuIn quad rotor surface drive looking to get 160+

Re: Fast Cats, 25 & 26

The fastest HTM I remember was 143, but that was several years ago, Steve, sad
to say, isn't around anymore. Anything over 140 is fast, 160 will be a hell of a ride.
Good Luck.

Yukon1 12-26-2004 05:31 PM

Re: Fast Cats, 25 & 26

Yes, 160 will be, hope to see it happen this year. My buddy should be done this summer. I have a SR24 w/HP500EFI whipple charger it runs 100 + at sea level with just 6 lbs of boost, around 100 is fast enough for me. Looking to sell this one and go bigger.

i was front row last summer when an HTM went over at about 120....  no thanks, my 30 is almost too short, i am looking to go bigger.... :D

Speed is great as long as nothing goes wrong, I saw some pictures from last years Lake Shootout. There were some pictures of an HTM in trouble.

FAMILY AND PERFORMANCE BOATING

* MARCH 2001* SS-24

The radar reading 143.1 and the GPS backed it up, showing a speed of 142.9 mph

HTM requires very little time to get up to these record breaking speeds

THE BOAT WAS JUST PLAIN AWESOME

“Throws you back in your seat”, The torque was unbelievable, as was the speed sensation that you feel as you lean on the throttle. It is equally stable, rock solid in fact.

The Coors Lite IHBA World Finals, HTM owner Steve Coulombe stole the show in his 24-foot htm ss, blazing down the liquid quarter mile at a top speed of 126.MPH with an et of 9.47 seconds.

160 in an open 24 foot almost cat? I sure hope he has no kids and a real good insurance policy because odds are hes gonna die doing it. I was at Elimnator shortly after the 144.7 ride drooling over that boat and I was told, and I quote " Teague said ya, but never again".

Re: Fast Cats, 25 & 26

ask the owner of HTM how safe they are.... :( there is no way i would ride in that boat at more than 100 espeacially in any kind of chop or rough stuff...

Re: Fast Cats, 25 & 26

Watched the HTM flip a few years ago at the LOTO shootout.......WOW was that Scarry!!!!

My 26 Eliminator will do over 100, that is plenty fast enough for me. At the LOTO it rarely see's that speed.

Gillermos son that works here at the shop on the cylinder heads has a Carrera 26 with a 622 we did for him and runs 125.5 as far as we know he's the fastest down in the Miami area

Re: Fast Cats, 25 & 26

Les;

What kind of power is that 622 putting up? I had a 632" NA in my Carrera.

I took a 145mph ride in a 32 skater and could not imagine going that fast in a single.....you guys have some screws loose.... :drink: Boat test pilots!!

Re: Fast Cats, 25 & 26

I have a buddy with a 26' firehawk, pushing somewhere around 1200hp. His website says the boat does 125 plus, but I was in it when it hit 129 on gps and I was there when we got him on radar at over 130mph I believe it was 136. You can see the boat and motor at his website, www.badattitudeboats.com. let me tell you 129 on the river was the fastest I'll ever want to go

Ummmm....
The owner of HTM "WAS" killed along with a friend and his engine biulder trying to get to 155.
I dont get the west coast mini boats trying to run these huge numbers. We just dont see water conditions over here that would allow that..

It' nice to see people with some common sense aboat the safty in speed numbers. Some people just like to push the limits, I am not one of those. Doing 100 and to live to boat another day is where I'm at. Hope to sell my HTM this year and up grade to a bigger boat.

where's the rest of the boat? If memory serves me right thats a N/A motor, I still say your running pretty good. A lot safer than some of us.

amen.... running 100 in a 30' is interesting enough at LOTO, i can't imagine anything smaller than that and the same speeds or higher...

Mine is safe at 90 as long as I am not at LOTO. HP to HP HTM may still be the fastest mine runs 89.9 with 500hp. It ran 93 with 550 hp on the last motor. It is a small lake boat and nothing more.

your body takes durring one of these speed runs. Picture standing outside in the middle of hurricane winds 140, 150, mph, no one does it, they would be crazy. It's
the same thing in a boat traveling those speeds, add the slamming and jarring from the waves. At 150 mph you're traveling around 200 feet per second, your face hurts
your cheeks are wrapped around your ears, your eyes are tearing up even with goggles on, you better be looking at least a half mile ahead because you can't turn
and it will take that far to slow down. Bottom line be as careful as possible and know what you're in for. Just food for thought.

if you routinely run over 100 i would definitely have 1/4 canopies.....

I went back to Hot Boat and did a search.
I followed the post for a few days as it all unfolded, very sad.
There were four people killed in a 30 foot HTM.
Here is a link to whats left of the unedited posts as it unfolded. Im posting this so others will think of the consequences of running these huge numbers.

I agree 100 percent, talked to DCB about an upgrade after the first season, just couldn't
afford it.

I have personally rode in many boats of all sizes and currently have a 35' cafe,so I'm not partial to any brand. I do know magazines routinely lie about boat speeds, and so do most boat owners. I'm also from the SHOW ME state,so I would say from all the facts I've seen running 9.47 at 127 in the quarter mile is pretty serious. It has my vote for the fastest and quickest boat in the 22-26 cat range. It would be hard to fool the IHBA timers. My guess is it took almost 1400 HP to get those kind of numbers.

There's no argument Steve Coulombe was an insperation to all power boaters. Before Steve, most of us were happy with our 100 mph boats.

I've been reading through the threads and thats always been my concern, running 140+ and all the issues you deal with. Who's testing these boats over the 140+ range, or is it B.S. that the boat manufacturer's are putting out, last I heard DCB hadn't tested a boat in the 26' class over 126! Where does the 26 ft DCB become a death trap, let alone any of the other boats? What speed do you have to exceed to find out! I think you guy's are on the edge and it's probably the liability involved that boat makers aren't testing these boats and selling them as safe to run in excess of 140+.
