Volvo SX Drive U-Joint
My name is peter noordermeer and I designed and build my own 42' powerboat of wood !
This winter I'm changing my old 290 volvo drive's into 2 new volvo SX drive's What i noticed is that there are several type's of u-joints !, the u-joints that or on my new drive's now are different than on pictures i see on the Internet. Can someone tell me more about it ? My drive gear ratio is 1.79:1 I have got two upgraded 350 vortec engine's. Is the u-joint on every SX drive the same or do I have a new type ? for more photo's of the boat www.powerboatcity.nl Peter |
Re: Volvo SX Drive U-Joint
I have a SX drive and put U joints on it last year. Can you tell me more about what differences you saw? Just as a heads up the SX drive shaft assembly is balanced and mark the connections and orientation so you can return the shafts to the same location.

Re: Volvo SX Drive U-Joint
I saw in the GLM marine cataloq, that there are 2 different u-joints, one with a grease nipple and one without GLM part number 38020 + 38030. The one with the grease nipple 38030 they say that it is a Heavy Duty.

Re: Volvo SX Drive U-Joint
I had a grease fitting on the factory u joints and replaced them with the fitting version, forgot about that. I figured the ability to grease when I pull the drive off for annual maintenance is a good thing.
