I've had "squish" on a Jag engine as close as .010... That was scary. The head gaskets on those engines is nothing but a thin corrogated steel sheet with a copper coating. You have to put a sealant on them or they leak. I had to mill the deck .012 to get it to level out.. That brought the center pistons almost flush with the deck. The head gasket is only about .010 thick... I was scared that the piston was going to touch the head when reved... Luckily the bore was small enough that I didn't have to worry about piston rock... and the pistons were J.E. forged.... :eek:

You may have already answered my question Reed, but I found a .030 brass gasket by Milodin. Anyone ever try those with aluminum heads. I'll look for that .036 Cometic Informaniac. 10x - both engines were fresh from winter rebuilds when I had the problem with the valve in one. Both are being done again this winter. Its and annual thing for me :rolleyes: As far as I am concerned I've seen the positive affects this has and am not understanding why some of you think this is only useful for high compression/power engines.

The .036 is custom, just takes them a little longer.
