Seeing there were/are different types of plugs in there now, that's the first thing I'd do.

How old are the plug wires? If stock, you might consider changing them too. A good (scary) way to check them is at night, very dark, no nearby lights, and a spray bottle of water (old fastastic bottle or something like that). While running, mist a little water around the wires and watch for lightning.

got it all back together but didn't fire it off ....I cant remember if we put wires on the port motor last time we had it out ....I think we did ...june ...but I know even new set could have a bad wire ...Wires are better than old days and also ignition voltages are higher .....could be though ...I am happy about the compression though ....had enough valve issues in 04 .....

Think positively "Grasshopper", for postive thinking yields positive results.

So i guess start swapping stuff out ... gona do Filters ,Cap and rotor ....see what happens ...This is sorta good news as this is the older of the 2 motors ..< 50hrs ... Starboard has about 10 or so ... There is another isssue with this motor ....burns or sumthin about 1/2 quart an hour ....it was full when we started and now shows about 2 quarts low ...we put between 4-5 hours ...This same motor got water in it this past summer and we pulled it ..had heads checked and valves done ...has new gil manifolds with Stainless marine pipes .... there are no leaks that I know of ..

That's what I call a hell of a woman

Before you get too involved, check the fuel filter water separators. A few drops of water will cause a stumble or backfire at WOT.

Good luck
