Intercooler for 525SC

Anyone ever install an intercooler on a 525SC? Any recommendations/comments/etc.? I have a 1998 525SC with about 225 hours on it. I have been told that an intercooler will reduce the risk of detonation as well as add about 60 - 80 hp. So far, the only one I have been able to find is a Superchiller.

I would spend the money on a BlowerShop 250 unit instead...
My 42 came with the 525's and I tried the smaller pulleys for a pound more boost and it only ran 1mph faster, I think those 177's are maxed out as it is.

Whipple also sells one, but its around 3 grand. It's part of the intake and only adds an inch in height. I've got a 525SC also and have thought about a cooler. I don't have the height for a standard 4" tall one, and the whipple is pricey. I think I would just go with a 250 blower if I were to upgrade.

the whipple one is pretty snazzy

Adding a cooler won't do ANYTHING for horsepower by itself. It will increase the air density of the charge by lowering its temperature. But it won't add anything to the number of fuel or air molecules that you're cramming in.

Guys that add a chiller normally spin the blower faster. That's where the additional power comes from.

Your stock blower might be good for another coupla pounds of boost. But that's it. By the time you add the chiller and puller for more spin, you're back at stock boost pressure with denser charge. Good for more power, sure, but a larger blower would be far more bang for the buck.

thanks for the input - I'm beginning to agree re: the larger blower...

I swapped out the smaller blower for a B&M 250 with a slightly larger hyd roller cam. Gained a good 75hp with the same amount of boost

Hot boat did a test with a cooler before and after, If I remember it was around 35 HP diff. Running cooler is always helpful also.

Go bigger blower, when you add a smaller pulley, the bearing will fail, do to the rpm increase and no one makes a bearing that will work without major mods.
