Modified Transoms

Has anyone modified their transom to achieve better performance? If so lets see some pics. I am thinking of adding 12 inches to the transom to take the drives farthur back from the boat, I have to replace the transom anyways. Will this gain anything? Any input is appreciated. The boat is a 1979 Formula 255 Liberator with twin Bravo's.

Thanks
Steven

Re: Modified Transoms

An extension box accomplishes what
your talking about.

Yes I know that, just wondering if anyone has done it different. Extension box is $1500 used times two gets pretty expensive. I am just looking for ideas before I start the transom work.

Re: Modified Transoms

outboard boats have been doing this forever,
build out the motor box, that is.

On an i/o I guess you can build out until you hit the oilpan on the notch.. Any more will require leaving the motors where they are and using a longer input shaft (like the Imco one).

Don't forget that you'll also need to extend the stringers all the way to the "new" transom, and you'll also need a new way to tie the corners together.

You'll spend a lot more than $1500 x 2 in time and sweat trying to do what you suggest.

Thats the input I need, thanks for the help. Just figured while the transom and stringers were being replaced it would be a good time to do this if it were to happen.

Hard On,

I am hoping for warmer weather early. I can get the old transom out while its cool. Just need the temperature correct for the resin to cure properly.

You are pretty close, how about sharing the keg when its time??LOL
