Added Subwoofer - EASY

I just installed a subwoofer in my boat. While thinking the existing system was pretty good. (Kenwood x 45w x 6 speakers and one amp for cabin) I added this Bazooka subwoofer; http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...0&I=204SM10AHP It was easy to install (about 1 Hr.) and wow what a difference! I just mounted it under the rear bench in a corner and wired to the existing speakers and the to the battery. It has a auto on/off feature so you dont have to wire it to the helm or stereo. I also bought the remote control too. It's not a $10,000 system but it sure has added a lot of punch to the system. :D - Ray

Ray it is a easy addition for a system. Full blown systems are not for everyone. I do hope you did not pay what crutchfields charges for the bazooka tube. Forrest

ANyone got a link to a place that offers this sub at a more reasonable price? I need some low-end grunt for my basic 4 speaker system - don't want to go fancy, and prefer something that has its own amp, like the Bazooka. What about their standard auto units? Anyone using them in their boat?

FWK - yes i did buy them from Crutchfield. No one here had any in stock (marine version) and most were the same price. After I added tax to it it was a better deal and better delivery from Crutchfield. 2 Days.

I must have missed your post on those subs. I have them available all of the time. Sorry Ray. I would not have been able to get it to you that fast.
Kook I will e-mail a price to you.
Forrest

Thanks Forrest,
I was curious, it's more than I want to spend this winter but maybe next I will go for the stereo upgrades.
Thanks again,

Subwoofer

Raypanic, you didn't mention adding an electronic crossover to your system. Adding an electronic crossover helps considerably. If you only have a bandpass filter in the sub and feed the rest of the system full range you have some real room to improve your system even more with minimal investmet.

Technically speaking, an electronic crossover gives 3 db effeciency gain over passive ( coil and capacitor ) crossover and even more over a simple single bandpass filter system.

To gain that 3 db you have to double your power. To gain another 3 db, double again. That puts the efficiency of the electronic crossover into perspective. It effectively represents doubling your power or maybe more in your case.

Also, if you have any way to physically couple your sub to the boat, it should improve low frequency output.

Bolt (not screw !) your sub in with heavy rubber washers between the sub cabinet and the boat.
Good luck and good listening.
