IMCO ALT/PS Bracket

Is anyone using the IMCO Alternator and Power Steering combination bracket?
Part # PSA-111
I am interested in how it mounts and what is used for an adjustment bar for the alternator.
I called to order the part #AB-105 alternator bracket (this lowers the alternator) and inquired about the part #PB-106 power steeering bracket and how it locates on the starboard side of the motor and if it interferes with the Seawater Pump.
IMCO suggested the combination bracket part #PSA-111.
Looking for feedback.

I am using that bracket on my power steering engine. Makes the belts really short. They don't come off at high rpm anymore. Made my own adjustment arm. I also am using their crank pulley. It is a little smaller & helps slow the belts down.

I am also using that bracket because I wanted to be able to use shorter belts once the circulating pump was removed. I fabricated an adjuster that works like a turnbuckle. It is a piece of small dia. heavy wall aluminum tube that has been threaded internally on either end to accept a rod end. One end is std thread and the other is reverse so it is easy to apply tension to adj the belt.

Chief sells a really nice turn-buckle that works perfectly with that bracket.Makes it really easy to adjust and looks great.

I'm using the bracket too. I took the adjusting bracket off the sea water pump and then ran a turnbuckle between the alternator and the sea pump. The same buckle tightens both of them. I got mine from March performance. They have a very nicely polished aluminum center rod, but I didn't care for the chrome moly eyes. I replaced them with some stainless ones from McMaster Carr. Don't forget to use to jamb nuts. One isn't good enough.

Does anyone have a photograph of this set-up?

I'll try to shoot a pic tomorrow. I haven't installed mine yet.
PM me your email address and I will send you a high resolution picture or two.
The IMCO site doesn't really depict the size of the bracket.

Just make sure you check the stringer centers. I tried to use one on my 251 Convinosr and it lower it right into the stringer so I could not use it, I still have it if anyones interested.

So exactly how far down does it drop the alternator? I would be interested in the bracket dlb Checkmate if I could get some idea of measurements.

I did a preliminary fit test of the IMCO bracket.
Alternator was a tight fit near the oil pan but manageable.
I am already impressed with how it positions the Alt. and P/S Pump into a compact space. The adjustment turnbuckle between the Sea Water Pump and the Alt. will be the hot setup. Will need to install a support bracket to the P/S Pump from the IMCO bracket. Also need to obtain a 7/16-14x3" mounting bolt that is missing in the pictures.

Re: IMCO ALT/PS Bracket

I did not measure how far it drops the alt, but on the Checkmate the stringer is so narrow that it put the alt about halfway into the stringer. If your stringer dimension is more than 25" it would most likely work. I like the way it looked on the motor, just the dang stringer.

Here is my setup with the March Rod. I used the 8.625" on and have plenty of room to adjust.

Hey RLW

Where did you get that line fitting for the top of your power steering reservoir? I need one of those for a Arneson conversion I'm working on.

Steve H,
The line fitting was already there when I bought the boat. I was told they can be bought at CP Performance.
I would check with Fred at Trick Marine for better pricing.

10.5 Inch Tie Bar
Installs between MK IV seawater pump and alternator, mounted on low mount bracket. Used to easily and equally tighten V-Belts on seawater pump and alternator. Includes rod ends and lock nut.

I don't sell the IMCO product but have low mount alternator brackets or a billet combi bracket for Power steering and alternator.

Re: IMCO ALT/PS Bracket

Also have a new powersteering pump with bracket that some might find a nice alternative.

Spectre5936 03-08-2007 02:22 PM

I'm still looking for an IMCO PSA-111 if anybody has one used...For a reasonable price.
