Starter for 496ho

What the difference between a Mercury starter and an automotive starter? Will a non mercury aftermarket starter bolt up to the 496 without any problems?

There are a bunch of aftermarket ones on e-bay for around 85 bucks, but I ended up just having my stocker re-built for 50.00.

I will order a marine starter later but I need a starter for today. Just wanted to be sure a starter from a auto parts store would bolt up.

Biggest difference is USCG certification for marine gas enigne compartment and whether engine is RH or LH rotation.
