pump for filling drive oil?
 

What pump should I use to fill drive oil? I have TRS, but I think the fitting is the same for Alpha/Bravo anyways. I want to do it myself instead of the marina charging big $$.

If the fitting is the same...they sell them in the boat stores for the small (32) ounce bottles like merc high perf. It's just a hand pump. BoatUS and WestMarine have 'em.

There's a different pump for the big jugs. It's a merc part, special order.

The fitting is the same as Alpha/Bravo. Make sure you remove the plug in the upper housing. Fill from bottom till it shows there. Put plug back in and keep filling till it shows up on the dipstick in the reservoir. After that you can pour the oil in thru the dipstick tube to full line.

Any other pump than the 1 quart at a time pump - these drives hold close to 4 quarts each!

You could always buy the pump, take the fitting off the end of the hose, and attach it to the bottom of a one gallon can. Suspend the can above the drive, and let gravity do the work. Some people have taken a garden sprayer, and put the fitting on the hose. Fill the sprayer, pressurize it and fill her up. You could also get the one that fits a 5 gallon container. It has a pump handle as well, but might be a bit pricey for occasional use.

Buy a big container of drive oil, the 1 qt container pump and a drill pump for pumping out engine oil. Switch the garden hose from the discharge side of the drill pump to the suction side. Take the tube and fitting off of the 1 qt pump and throw the rest away. Get a couple of fittings and hose clamps to attach the hose and fitting from the 1 qt onto the discharge side of the drill pump. Screw the fitting into the drive, put the garden hose piece into the oil and hook up a drill to the drill pump and pump away.

This setup is <$25 excluding the drill and fills the drive in 2-3 minutes. :cool:

Find the old stainless fire extiguisher that has the valvestem and hand grip on top, 5 lbs. air and take it on the road !
