Difference between Mercruiser 496 Vs. Volvo 496?

Is there any difference between the Merc 8.1 496 375hp and the Volvo 8.1 496 375hp?

If you plan on leaving it stock you could save some coin going with Volvo. If you want to tinker there is not much aftermarket stuff for Volvo.

Both marinizers buy the heavy duty truck engine from General Motors. Each company has their own ideas about exhaust.
I haven't seen the Volvo yet, but I know the Mercruiser has fresh water cooling, (a closed system with a heat exchanger).

t500hps is correct. Volvo paints 'em red.

Thanks for the info. Found a good deal on a pair and wondered if they would be good for a build up.
