Smartcraft for 525EFI

Hey Guys:

Can anyone help me about installing Smartcraft technology to my engine. Where do I get the gauges, etc...? I'm a bit green about this. Is it worth it? The more info the best.

Thanks,

Ron L.

I am in the process of building a new boat with 525 EFI's and opted to go with Livorsi monster gauges and a pair of the Smartcraft monitors. I don't have any pics right now, but I'll post a pic or two of the gauge panel in a few days..

It appears that if you use a system tach and system speedo you could give up all the other gauges. I am looking at doing just the tach for the additional readouts it can provide. Since the boat we are outfitting already has a full set of regular gauges.

I heard that I should be able to get montiors on oil, fuel level, fuel consumption and tied into a GPS should get estimated fuel usage to destination,etc... all kinds of stuff. Is this true?

Yes, there is some very good info on the Livorsi website and on the Mercury website. The system is integrated and can take GPS inputs to give fuel/distance remaining, fuel to dest, and alarms for virtually everything. If I was building a new boat with the Smartcraft engines I would have to seriously consider 2 tachs and a 5000 series Mercury monitor as the only dash pieces other than a chartplotter. The Smartcraft system watches all parameters and that would leave no reason for water, oil, volt, etc. gauges.

Thanks Ted...I'll check out the 5000 series monitor.

I am having our new boat fitted with monster gauges & then came across the Smartcrft system. It appears to be the way to rig a boat. I will add the system later as it seems to be pretty simple to install..plug in & play type system. Anybody using this system yet?

Johno:

I just spoke with Mercury this a.m. and the SC5000 is all you'll need basically. It runs around $1,200 which does not include the cables or any other additions you may want to add. See the mercurymarine website and go to the Smartcraft section. You will see a short video on the display. It really is awesome and the data is just great. If I had known it was available, there wouldn't be too many gauges on my dash. I'm going to talk to a Mercury dealer today about the final costs.

Will post of my findings.

Actually, I met a fiberglass guy last week. I'm in CT now and won't return to Florida until the end of next week. when I get back, he's going to take a look at my dash and then let me know what is needed to be done. Will post when I speak with him. Shouldn't be much to do.

Re: Smartcraft for 525EFI

Smartcraft uses data that the MEFI outputs and has output since the early 90's EFI engines.
Sadly Smartctaft is looking for the MEFI 3 datastream.

I wish I was engineer enoough to grab that data and display it on a dash board monitor. RINDA Technologies does it on the Mercury tester that I have and they also can display and anlyze the datstream through some Windows pc software they sell for around $500.

The data my hand-held RINDA tester shows in perfect--RPM, spark, timing, injector timings, coolant and oil temps, fuel consumption in addition to error codes and more.

Any engineers game to develop a dashboard display system ???

The Dragon uses the SmartCraft we hooked two monitors together [interface] the new verison is system view Race edition. The guage would be for looks only because it's the last to receive the information. The motor will go to default before the guage can receive the information of what is wrong. cb

Just for fun, a screen shot of my Diacom (Rinda) software. This is more for diagnostics than a dash display of course, but it gives you some idea of what a dash display might look like.
