Livorsi Controls Conversion
 

I have a '03 230 SSi Chapparal and am considering converting from the factory combination single shift / throttle/ trim to two stick seperate shift / throttle w/ trim Livorsi controls. Has anyone done this before (even on a different boat) and can you tell me how hard this will be to do and what problems to watch out for? Any suggestions? (I know I'll have to install a "pod" or make something to mount the new controls).

If you have a standard Mercruiser shifter you will need to buy and run new cables with universal ends. Livorsi uses a standard Morse 3300 cable. The last one I did I used Teleflex TFXtreme cables and it was a huge improvement over stock-much more precise control over the throttle and shift. You can also have trim in the throttle handle which is really sweet too. The hardest thing might be getting the cables through the hull depending how they ran the original ones. You can get the length off the old cables-usually about a foot from the engine end.

Insptech is correct, you may have to run new cables, but this is a very easy conversion. If you need any help please let me know. The trick set up is trim on the throttles!

Not to hijack.... same subject.... different boat.

I have OMCs.... I want to do the same conversion. I am totally hip to the OMC ESA system, and it's relationship to shifting. I have that issue covered. My question is....the OMC shift cable is split into an upper and a lower, meeting at a trunion on the bracket on the block. Can I replace only the upper half, reconnecting the system at the trunion with a threaded fitting? Or, do I need to take it all the way down to the drive?

Rigging the helm won't be a problem.

Thanks to all who responded. My confidence is a little higher about doing this. One question for Doller Offshore. I'm not familar with the Northwest Zero Friction cables. Where can I get them?
