bravo skeg

how much does it cost to fix the skeg on the bottom of a 1990 bravo drive, how would shaving the skegs off the drive effect the boats handling?

Re: bravo skeg

Our local prop shop does it for about 125$ on the boat,i'm sure you can have it done somewhere in your area also for a similar price. You would NOT want to trim both skegs off, your boat would probably develop a "new" handling charateristic that you would hate,Smitty

375stinger, I've heard that being done in trip applications with good results ... although I have no personal experience myself.

Also, SKEGGARD make a stainless 'bolt on' tip that allows you to easily replace a worn skeg. My drive mechanic would not weld a new piece of aluminum to my drives for risk of warping the casing!? Not sure what the chances were, but I didn't want to find out the hard way.

my prop shop repaired about 3" for 45.00 ........looks as new ..... The Skeggards are like 99.00 each ....I would think you need to do both .....I saw some just last week and it changes the profile of the drive ..at least these did ...I am not sure it they were skeggard brand ...there was a space between the old skeg and the new outer ...at the front ....seems it would create some drag ....

As long as there is 1" or more of the original skeg left welding is not a problem as long as it it done properly. Tell your welder to weld 2" at a time and peen the bead (beat the crap out of it with a hammer) as it cools.
