Stock 502MagMPI Rebuild

I have a 1997 502MagMpi with 480hours.
My plan is a stock rebuild: Rings, Bearings, Valve-Job...

I started stripping it down a few days ago and I'm putting together a shopping list.

So far I have new lifters, rockers, timing chain set for the Valve train.
Do I need new valve springs when the valve job is done?
Any other parts I should consider?

For the Short-block: rings, bearings, oil pump
How about the rod bolts? should they be replaces?
Anything else a weak point?

Thanks for the help,

Re: Stock 502MagMPI Rebuild

Pat,

Go with roller valvetrain and you will love the difference. If you upgrade your cam slightly and get your ECM reprogrammed by someone reputable, you will be very surprised at the end results. I believe if you do a search on 502MPI or 502EFI upgrade you will find lots of good information.

Dave1972,
It's a Gen VI roller motor. No plans to change the cam, but If I have the heads ported, Mark at Precision will do the ECU.

dahkem1,
OK, new valve springs, retainers, locks, and APR rod and head bolts. I think I can spend the few extra $$.
