Digital Cam question
Ok, after over three years, I think I finally broke my digital cam.
Olympus C-3000.... had it since 11/01.
Dropped it (while in soft case) about three feet to the floor. No obvious damage to the unit. Powers up fine.
However, it no longer recognizes either the smart memory card that was in it when i dropped it, or the other card that was not involved.
Do I just ship the sucker back to Olympus?
Anybody been down this road with a digital cam?

Re: Digital Cam question
I have several Oly's from the 2000 to the 5050. I get that from time to time, I have to reformat the card in the PC to get it to read. If it does it on all your cards, something is wrong with the camera. Oly will charge you $100 for the service + parts if they are needed. You can pick up 4040's and 5050's pretty cheap. 3000's can be had on ebay for about $150-$200.

I think I paid 550 for mine when it was new.
I don't want it to become a paperweight, so I guess I will contact Olympus.
Thanks!

Re: Digital Cam question
Just went thru this w/Olympus. Basically, if your camera is more than 18 mos. old, it's probably not worth fixing. They have a trade-in program for your broken one but you can probably get that price elsewhere without screwing around and sending in the broken one
The good news is that you can replace a 3 year old camera you paid $500 for with one that now costs $100. I bought a new Sony DSC-T1

My old olympus sat on my desk- i was going to order the part and put it on myself.
I figured the time I took tracking down and ordering the part, then the cost of getting it shipped to me, then waiting for it, then breaking the part while I screwed around trying to fix it myself.................... last week I tossed it.
I figure it this way, the time I spent dicking around with it- I could just keep working and earn the $$ to buy a new one. Who's kidding who? I'd have burned that time here. Sounded good though.

If you're going to shop for a camera, you have to look at the Sony. It's 2.5" x 3.5" x about 5/8" thick. 5megapixel, 3X zoom and in my shirt pocket I can't even feel it. I figure the world's best camera isn't worth a thing if it's at home on the shelf. I'm a guy that hates having change in his pockets- this thing is sweet.
