Double Tie-Bars?

Hey guys, I've noticed in some pictures on OSO that some folks are using double tie-bars, one between the drives, even with the steering rams, and one at the top of the gearcases, i.e. where a stock merCruiser bar would mount. I am running an IMCO full power hydraulic external setup on a 35' Mistress with SSMII's, and the steering cap type wing plates, what are the advantages to adding the secondary (lower) tie-bar? Thanks in advance.

I would only run 1, less chance of 1 binding. people also talk about the inner and outer tie bars at the same time. you will be fine with 1.

Unless someone can shed additional light on this subject , I think it's just unnecessary overkill.

Re: Double Tie-Bars?

dual tie bars help's to eliminate excess side load on the drives , especially in severe condition's. helps save gimbal ring's, as i learned the hard way. how ever as stated, easy to bind, and very costly if a trim button sticks.
