Run frig off from inverter?
I have a Norcold refrigerator that has a bad power supply. The frig works great on 115ac but won’t work at all on 12dc. Any problem with running the frig off an inverter? It is a model de251e and looks like it draws about one amp on 115v. Looks like it could easily run off a small inverter.

I had the same problem on my old boat had to turn on the
accessories switch on the dash but ended up rewire around the toggle switch |
Re: Run frig off from inverter?
No problem, just remember that one amp @ 120VAC will be approximately 10 amps @ 12VDC. Also, factor in the ineffeciency of the invertor and you have more like 12-13 amps @ 12VDC. How many batteries do you have? Four batteries would be very comfortable for a weekend. That is if you don't run too much else.
Invertors are just not too good for continuous duty appliances. |
Re: Run frig off from inverter?
Frig draws .7 amps on ac and 3 on dc. I don't do any overnights with the boat and normally only stay out about eight hours. Anchor time about five hours. I am using two batteries right now but plan on adding one.
Thanks for your input!!! |

A forzen 2-liter water bottle will really cut the run time of the fridge.

If you use the inverter, be careful of how it's wired, I will be helping a buddy track down an electric "leak" that you can feel coming out his outdrive. |
Re: Run frig off from inverter?
fix the fridge. you can buy a new power supply.

Re: Run frig off from inverter?
I did think about repairing it. A new power supply is about $300.00. A new frig is about $600.00. I don't know if it pays to repair a frig that is 10 years old. The inverter is $100.00 and it would be nice to have anyway.
