special spline grease merc makes?
 

saw this posted somewhere else. whats so special about it and under what other name brand can you buy it?
i know merc isnt in the oil refinery business so its got to be for sale somewhere else cheaper. :rolleyes:

I've seen spline grease at West Marine . It is listed in their catalog for $10.49
I don't know what is different about it. My merc dealer let me "borrow" some the last time I serviced my drive.

No matter what the cost is from Merc. That grease will last you a life time.

I am gonna get some deserved crap for this but do I really have to use spline grease? It is not the $$ , just I never remember to buy it before the drive is off and then I don't want to stop goto get it. I have not seen any wear on coupler (yet) but next time I service the drive I guess I buy a tube. 10 bucks in the total cost of boating...is not that bad. :)

when i started this thread i made the assumption that since its sold by merc its going to be expensive. im ok with spending 10 bucks on it but ide rather just buy it from a local auto supply store then order it online or across town at boatersworld.

I thought the out drive spline grease what black and the blue /green grease was for the needle bearings for assembly??

Mercury spline grease goes for $7.35 for a 14oz cartrige that goes in a grease gun.

I don't know if it is synthetic but it odes the job.
