FORD 351 W Rebuild ... I need advice
Hey guys Im in the process of breaking down my "new" 351 Windsor carbureted to replace my old 302 EFI. I need a set of heads for it but dont know what to go for. Should i get some stock heads and modify them? If I have them machined what specifically should i have done? In addition I need a new intake manifold, Any reccomendations? Im probably going to purchase a new cam but know that high performance cams can cause problems with inboards(wet exhaust). Should I get a mild cam - all roller? Im willing to spend some cash on the project if it will get my rig running better. Any advice is welcome on things I did not mention. I dont know what the protocol is for rebuilding / improving marine motors so all help is very appreciated.
Thanks `Dave |

dump the stock heads, they suck try darts, afr, canfield or trickflow. get a good matched roller cam & you'll make a lot more power.

Is it safe to go with aluminum heads in a marine motor?

If this is a wake boat or ski boat, the best bang for the buck is a set of Roush 200's from World. Get an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a hyd roller cam around 214/220 @ .050" and around 490 to 500 lift. Just by doing this you will free up around 75HP in the engine easy.

My boat is a 1996 Four Winns U-19, essentially a donzi hull.

See this thread:
351 in a U-19 This guys LOST performance going to big heads. What works on the street on Fords doesn't work on the water... Stay with stock heads, DooE's or E7's seem to work pretty good. Jim |
Re: FORD 351 W Rebuild ... I need advice
The stock E-7 heads ported can gain 35-40 hp with the stock 1.780 intake valves on a 302 up to 6100 rpm. The intake port will peak airflow around .500 lift.
The GT-40 heads will work but they should be ported if you go over .500 lift. These heads have a 1.840 intake valve and a smaller 1.540 exhaust valve which I think it will work better in a marine application. my opinion |
