Correct Head Torque

I have Dart Block, Merlin Iron Heads, with ARP studs. Merlin says 65 ft, Chevy book says 85, Speed shop says 75. What's the best?

Re: Correct Head Torque

Depends on the lube used on the washers and nuts, that can change the torque specs by 20 Ibs. Also the head gasket material is an issue. If you over torque that's just as bad as under torque. My advise is go with the fasteners rec. and make sure you use the lube for the right torque. If the tell you 80 with motor oil and 65 with moly make sure you don't use assembly lube and 65. Make sure it is a moly lube.

Re: Correct Head Torque

Arp recommends 65-75 long and short with molly. Felpro says go by the bolt manufacture not the gasket maker.

Was that with oil or moly?
