Re: fuel pump question
I am a firm believer in overkill when it comes to fuel systems. I wouldn't trust that stock pump. Your motor will be much happier having more of a fuel supply than too little. Your motor wont let you lean it out too many times before it melts down. I say get an Aeromotive return system along with your stock mechanical. Then you wont have to worry.

Re: fuel pump question
Ran the stock fuel pump on my 502 CI running a w/250 blower with a 1050 Dominatorfor 5 yrs. Fuel press never dropped, even on long runs at WOT. Spun that puppy to 5800 many times and still had full pressure.

Re: fuel pump question
My 750's were recently dyno'e with Holley mechanical fuel pumps. They could not keep up with the 1050 Dominator. The fuel pressure dropped at 5,000 rpms and up. :( I would suggest adding a mallory electric pump in addition.... you'll need a regulator as well.

Re: fuel pump question
You need to find out how much fuel the factory pump puts out, It needs to be at least 110GPH.
If not you can get big fuel pumps for sea pumps at hardin marine. Attack: Were those six valve pumps? If so sounds like you had setup problems, maybe you needed a lightweight fuel pump rod. Those pumps are good to 1000HP. |
Re: fuel pump question
If a guy wants you can buy the new 170GPH holley pumps and remove the bottom and put it on your factory fuel pump top. The top has the pressure spring and the vent in it, just make sure the rubber is in good shape and the spring isn't rusted.
The top on the factory sea pump fuel pump is it's own breed, you have to buy the whole new pump or convert yours. |
