Boat Hatch

I'm replacing my cabin boat hatch. I removed a Bomar extruded aluminum framed hatch, My cut out is 16 7/8" and all that Bomar said that they have in that size was the molded polycarbonate frame.
I was wondering if any one has had any problems with these hatches and was wondering how they hold up to mother nature and the rough pounding that the boats some time takes?

Anyone help me with this?

Re: Boat Hatch

I'd have to hazard a guess but if Bomar makes and sells it all the UV issues would have been tested and you'll end up with a first class product.

Put the UV question to Bomar. I've got an 87 Formula and my hatches are metal. On those the "glass" is some sort of plastic material and the only degradation has been a littel fogging of that material and the rubber gaskets have shriveled and cracked--kind of like I have--from the sun.

Poorsche,
Thanks for the reply. As you read I removed a aluminum framed one and Bomar is only offering my needed size in polycarbonate.
I'm from the old school and these type of things just never seem to hold up as well and I don't want to take the time to install it just to tear it out in a couple of years because of problems. That is why I was putting feelers out to see if there are boaters that have had them for some time and could give me the track record on them.

I feel your pain, so to speak--seems like everything has shorter life expectancy and lower quaility in this disposable society we're caught up in now.

I just had some Sunbrealla covers made for mine so they are protected from sun, water and my critical eye--

Good Luck

Well Poorsche,
I guess I'm the only one that owns one of these things.
Not seeming to get much response.
Anyone have any track records on these hatches?

Re: Boat Hatch

just my 2 cents but I actually prefer a well made snap in canvas curtian in place of the sliding door, those things always get dirt in the tracks and become impossable to move and they rattle like hell when youre out in the ruff stuff. Just my opinion though.

I believe he is talking about deck hatches, not cabin entry doors.

Re: Boat Hatch

Hillbilly,
You must of had your wires crossed. I was referring to the top bow hatch.
Have you had any experience with the polycarbonate hatches compared to the metal ones?
