6 hose to 4 hose T stat housing upgrade?
 

Hello. My original engine had a 6 hose thermostat housing. Can I change to a later model 4 hose and just plug the riser ports on the elbows?

How exaclty does a crossover pipe work? I'd like to use one to replace my water pump, but not sure if it is suitable for idling and such.
