A friend of mine just bought a pair of used 502 mag's.
Are there a reliable way to verify the age of these motors online?

If the engines included the ECMs, you can (with a scan tool) get an engine operating history from them.

Serial #'s are F812188 and F812273.

The seller claimed they are -98's, but I think they are older.

Sure there is not a '0' in front of the 'F's?

I looked twice, and could'nt find the"0", that confused me too.
According to the Mercruiserparts-site they seem to be -96's,
but I'm not sure, that's why I posted here.

Do they have serp or v-belts? I think by '98 all motors had the serp belt.

well that bites! The list of trusted people is just getting smaller. You might consider verfiying the hrs now too with scan tool.

Nope.. The seller have to take them back.
My buddy paid for 1998 freshwater engines, and that's what he want.
