Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
It's nice to see another procharger owner, looks like you should be able to break some drives.
|
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
I'm very happy with my procharger, my xr isn't I get 6 to 8 hours out of a set of gears.
|
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
GPM - Where are the failures occuring - upper cap? Catching air or just brute power busting things up?
|
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
to much torque, pealing the faces off the lower gears.
|
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
are you running a stock intercooler, as far as water supply?
|
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
what size boat and weight is it and I'm looking at a P/G set upfor my motor 509 647hp at 5900 627tqat4700rpm I was told to go with a m3 or m4 my boat is 4000lbs
|
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
26, weighs 4000, the M 3 would be good for the 509, M4 if you ever plan to go to a 540.

Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
Scarab, don't want to leave you out of your thread, I think you're going to surprise the whipple and roots guys. Looks good to me.
|
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
It's going into a 28' Scarab - 5000 lbs.
I agree that an M3 or M4 is a better fit for the 540. Now to start working on the external steering. :drink: |
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
scarab28, those are great numers! I have a 502, procharger M1 7-9 psi (Ive seen both), my boats about 4000# and it rips! Do you have a 28 wellcraft? Greg

Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
Boy Id like the M$ and a 504 or a tomcat intercooler.

Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
The bigger the procharger the happier you'll be!

On;y $16,000, funny how that's the same price as Arneson ASD6 conversion and about the same as Konrads conversion. Nice Dyno numbers!!! |
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
HP Junkie - Yes - It's a 28' Wellcraft Scarab Excel. I was runing a 28p Bravo I with a procharged 454 ( 75 MPH). I'm going to start with a 32 B1 and see what happens. Hope to see mid eighties. Now go away ICE.

Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
Payton, I started off with the teague platnum xr, I broke the vertical shaft just cracking the throttle at 120. I moved on to the Max shafts, top cap and gears. Everything is holding up except for the gears, I know I'm over powering the unit, it's my fault that they break. I'm looking at drive options as we speak.

Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
GPM you need a BMAX on your boat! Rod at Perf Marine has several of these behind big power on big boats and they have held up. There was some negative press on these when they first came out, but those issues have been resolved from what I have been told. It may cost you a few MPH, but I think you have some to spend!! :D
Very nice numbers on Scarab 28!! Yes you will likely have to consider a drive upgrade as well!! :drink: Craig |
Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
Nice, Tq peak at 4600 and Hp at 5400-5600. 900/900 is a nice number. What boost are you running? Is that man pressure in inHg? 11-16? I believe it would be about 5-8 pounds boost. Whish is about right 540CID 1.1Hp/CID = 600HP and 8pounds/16 = 900HP.

Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
True! But if the lowers can handle the abuse HTM puts them through drag racing their 24 turning mid 9's at 120+ MPH I'm pretty sure they should live on a pleasure boat. Even if it is approaching 150 MPH!! The only lowers I have really heard of are prop shafts or if they were set up wrong. Normally the top is the weak link and breaks first. With your 1300 HP motor and RPM who knows! :drink:

Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
Cobra Marty - That's exactly right with the manifold boost numbers. 5 - 8 lbs boost. I may drop the boost to max at 5 lbs just for the outdrives sake.

Re: 540 Dyno Numbers
Scarab28: Don't change the pulley, it's perfect; you need the boost to start as early as possible. The life of the drive has more to do with your throttle hand than the pulley. Play with props first; if you reduce WOT RPM a bit with more pitch, maximum boost is also reduced. You can't go too crazy with pitch though because of the heads and cam, (where the torque peak is.) Nice numbers, it's going to scare people.
Nice numbers |
