496 questions

A couple of questions regarding my engine swap from 454 MAG to 496 Mag HO in a Baja 272:
1. The 496 came without flywheelhousing and coupler. Can I reuse both parts from my old engine (93 454 Mag Carb.)? The part number of the flywheelhousing seems to be the same on both engines, the couplers have a similar partnumber but different endings (A7 on the newer one, A9 on the old one).

2. Did anyone of you guys use the Silent coice system from Corsa ('81020-REPL) that was especially made for the 496 that works with the old 454 wisbone (Y-pipe) and transom holes?

3. I heard a rumour that Merc changes the PCM computers of 496 engines that run too rich and produce excessive transom soot....apparently theres a new programm available that is leaner and has better performance...but only the ones complaining about that and still are under warranty get the new programm from Merc....is that programm available somewhere (Dustin Whipple, Raylar?????)

Tahnks for your thoughts and opinions. This board really rocks!

Re: 496 questions

P: Im using the Corsa Quick and Quiet exhaust system on my 496 HO and am using an old 454 Y-pipe. I drilled my own holes in the transom, though, and am not sure how the pipes would line-up with holes pre-drilled for 454 exhaust - the 496 engines are definitely wider between the exhaust risers than a 454 - but you can probably angle the diverters/hosing inwards and make up for the difference. Call Corsa and they'll give you a straight answer.

Re: 496 questions

I just told my sales rep to check into the ECM issue with the soot and he said that they are under waaranty. He got me the new ones and I switched them out. They did cut down the soot big time.
