Re: MSD Distributors & Boxes $$$
You've already got a Thunderbolt distributor. Just get a Crane HI6-M box to work with it and you're good to go. I've never had one fail. Cost is around $300.

Re: MSD Distributors & Boxes $$$
Just my opinion, but I think the Merc. dist. is the weak link in thier ignition system.

Re: MSD Distributors & Boxes $$$
I think the Thunderbolt distributor is a fine unit. The problem is trying to use it in an application that it is not designed for. By using the Crane box you bypass all the electronics except the sensor itself. There was a run of the sensors that were bad in the late 90's but that 's been resolved. There are tens of thousands out there performing flawlessly and they are designed for the hostile marine environment. The aftermarket units are certainly better for high RPM applications, but an average boat engine doesn't see that kind of RPM where you really benefit from a billet and ball bearing type distributor. Just my 2 cents....

Re: MSD Distributors & Boxes $$$
So, Tbolt IV and Crane box??
Whats this I'm told about using a V6 module?? |
Re: MSD Distributors & Boxes $$$
MSD reliability :(

Re: MSD Distributors & Boxes $$$
You can use a V6 module which has less advance. But the Crane box allows you to chose what advance curve you want, has an adjustable rev limiter and is multispark. You don't need any module when you use the Crane.
