Help with Mazda (Ford) 626 A/C

Can't tell you how many times this board has helped me with my 1st problem child (The Formula). Now I Need some help diagnosing my a/c on my 95 Mazda 626. This is basicly a Ford Probe. Problem is IT DOESN'T WORK  It keeps blowing the fuse. Replace the fuse and it will work for a few minutes and then blows the fuse.....Any thoughts? The local wrench down the road says the compressor has a short. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this problem child?

First what motor in it. Next check the electric rad fan for op. disconnect it and see if the fuse still blows. if not replace the fan. if it still blows disconnect the compresor. it could be a bad coil on the clutch

Thanks for the reply....motor is 2.0L 4banger. Electric fans work. Are you saying disconnect the fans and then check if the fuse for the A/C blows? Lets say it still blows then what? How does disconnecting the compressor troubleshoot the fuse blowing. All that is on the fuse is the A/C......

Re: Help with Mazda (Ford) 626 A/C

It should be a 30 amp fuse and controls the a/c compressor clutch and cond fan. If the fan has a short or high draw it will blow the fuse. If the coil in the clutch on the compressor is starting to short then poof there goes the fuse. It also feeds some relays in the a/c system but those are the most common causes.

Thanks again....Yeah it's a 30amp fuse. Since the fan(s) are working fine then they limit the problem to the compressor assem then right? Thanks alot for the help scottc
