10k? Maybe you took that from a previous cleveland comment I made when we were talking about the past. Everyone wants to steer clear of the issues, the thread was made to know if merc used ford power thus making parts avalable. It turned into a circle jerk with Ford vs Chevy, my dick is bigger then yours. Typical nonsense.

I look forward to seeing some small blocks in a marine application ..my good buddys dad was big in Ford marine and would tell me about building them and running them in the Ski boats..they would crank out 300HP all day and get great longevity out of them and power. Plus my 289 in a 66 stang ran all over those hippies in their bondo up primer door Camaro's ..Don't get me wrong I have 4 GM products and like 8 SBC engines in different vehicles..and love those also...just a jab..

Nothing wrong with a Ford in a marine application. My Holman Moody 351W in my old Donzi is still going strong after 35 years! :evilb:

No checvy vs ford arguement with me. Just some advice.
With the Ford 427 FEs in my cruiser, it's sometimes easier and cheaper to fab or modify marine specific parts than to buy new ones. You can get any small or big block chevy parts in about an hour around here.
Check out price and availability of the marine stuff before diving in. Exhaust, ignition, alternator, starter, fuel pump, engine mounts, brackets for water pump, cooling system plumbing, thermostat housing.
Boats are enough of a pain without adding more work.

The c/c on transom plate is 12.625 width, 8.750 height from bottom of legs.(bellhousing)
I'm building a pair of 302's do you know Redline's web site address. Google has everything but,need ex. manifolds.

PS the 347's work real well. I put them in early Formula's where the room is tight.(for chevy's)

Thanks for the input. Drew Marine has the exhaust. Also I searched for redline but not hard enough obviously. I have built atleast 12-15 347's, they work absolutely fantastic. I have no doubts whatsoever of the Fords feasibility :evilb:

I have a 1973 18ft Bonanza tri hull boat that has a 302 ford with a 888 merc outdrive for sale. I probably wont get much more then junk price for it. The boat is in Lake City, Mn.

I'll find redline's # for you guys tommorow I have done buis with them in the past. And in repsonse to Gary all of the parts you listed are readaly available in marine versions. BB and SB fords are all over the place in jet boats and flatbottom v drives. they just arent common at all in sterndrives the only complication is mounting the back of the engine to the transom plate but it looks like thats under a control too. keep us posted woody

One thing to keep in mind, I ran into this when I went from a 302 to a 351 way back in the olden days. When I went to put the crank pulley on the balancer I had a problem. Honestly I can't remember If the grooves didn't line up or If I was trying to line up a 3 hole bolt pattern with a 4 hole. One way or another I ended up using the 302 balancer (after sending it out to the balancing shop) on the 351, it was the only way I could get belts on the engine. That was of course long before the Internet and online parts searching. Just something to keep in mind. I'm sure it is probably one of those things only a Chevy guy would overlook, a true Ford guy would know that of course the balancers are different.
