96' Bravo upgrade- XZ gears?
Will b turning aprox 600hp at prop on 96' bravos 1's? I know that XR conversion wont adapt to my bravo 1's, so i am thinking going with XZ upper gears along with new 1 piece down shaft and prop shafts from CP performance. Aaprox cost not including labor is aprox $2,200 per drive. Am on a budget....any ideas?

Use the Max Machine parts from CP.

Max Machine Worx parts are what I am using in my Bravo One XR's. Mr. Gadgets/Dick from Dick's Performance Marine might give you some advice once he sees your thread. He went through a TON of his own Bravo problems before he got into the Bravo drive repair business. He paid a heavy price for what he knows.

faster,
You can put XR gears in a standard bravo case, but you need some parts mixing and matching to do it. I have them in mine. My .02 on the subject is, if you can run the X gears with breaking them (meaning, good driving habits, not to heavy a boat and not to big of motor) then go with the X gears. The XR's are stronger, but softer and have a shorter life under hard useage. If you need XR then have to go with them. There are other alternatives, also.. Imco SC, Bmax, Max Works, etc. How big is your boat and how good are you on the throttle? Those are the main questions. 600hp is not that much in a lighter boat. If you are good with the sticks. You can go to an "X" gear upgrade for the standard Bravo, which gives you all new inners for your upper, street price on that is under $1100. You can upgrade your lower with XR shafts or Imco. The street price on the Merc stuff is around $2k. That gives you all new stuff inside with some good pieces to help the Bravo to survive the abuse we all love to give them.. I hope this helps.. if you have any more ?? feel free to call me in the evening.. 616-335-8446 Dick |

I have a 2003 XR and may be willing to separate. If you're interested let me know, maybe we can work a deal.

The "drive" (1) is a take off from a 38' Cig. Top Gun that had HP 500 EFI's. The drive had maybe 50 hrs on it and needed a new upper drive shaft. Right now I have it apart, checking the rest of the bearings, replacing seals etc and I was going to keep it as a spare but if someone wanted to make me an offer I would consider it. panther |
