Need a prop for a 25 outlaw

I own a 99 25 outlaw SST with a 502 mag and the boat has a notched bottom. I upgraded to stainless marine exhaust with risers off of a hp500, remapped the ECU, Hardin flame arrestor and k&n filter. All work done over the winter and now its time to get my boat dialed in with the best prop. I am currently using a borrowed turbo prop 4 blade 24pitch, WOT 4900prm. The prop gave me a better ride and better mid range but I lost 3 MPH from the Mirage 3 blade 23 pitch that came on the boat. I would like to get the best speed and mid range out of the boat that I can......anybody have any suggestions???

have you run the stock prop with the new setup? i would start there and then call throttle-up and talk to matt or julie, they will put you where you need to be...

Nope, havent put it in the water with the new setup yet...to cold still. Right now I just get to look at it in the driveway and daydream. My plan was to try the stock prop but the ride and mid range was terrible.

always wanted,

I will try to assist you. Tell me the specifics of re-mapping your ECU.

Were is your Rev Limiter set now?

Have you run the Mirage 23P as well after the modifications you made to confirm it's numbers, WOT RPM and MPH (gps)?

With a little date i am sure that we can get you dialed in!

Re: Need a prop for a 25 outlaw

Julie,

ECU specifics: had it remapped by hardin marine
had the rev limiterbumped from 5200 to 5400rpm

I havent run the 3 blade because of the weather up here...its normally nice enough by now but unfortunately it has been to cold to start testing props yet, maybe next week will be nice enough. The 3 blade gave me great speed but the ride left a lot to be desired. 90% of the time I am out with the family 4 of us on the boat. Will the new setup change the ride provided by the 3 blade?

Julie,

air/fuel mixture changed by remap also due to new exhaust setup. was running 67mph at 4900rpm before new set up with the 3blade mirage.

always wanted,

I woul run your 23P agian when it warms up and get new baseline numbers. It is possible to see changes in her behavior, after any modification...proceed with caution. 4B propellers will greatly improve the handling characaturistics of the boat, but it is also possible to loose about a 1.5 knots on top. But this is not always the case. It really depends on how the boat was opertating with the 3B , propeller efficiency is a consideration. When you can get a new baseline number with your 23P, post your results here and we can work on getting you dialed in!

Julie,

Will do! Hopefully I can start prop testing within a couple of weeks but VA weather is so unpredictable. Thanks again and you will be hearing from me.

Is that off the speedo or a gps????

That calculates to 6% slip which is highly unlikely for 25 Outlaw. Slip is usually in the 10-15% range for non step V.

Re: Need a prop for a 25 outlaw

I have a labbed 25 Mirage for sale if your interested. I picked up about 4 MPH with it over the stock 23 in my 24 outlaw. However, there is a price to pay in that I had to come out of the hole easy or the prop would blow out when I had a load of people (5) on the boat. With two on board it was OK, but still not as good as a four blade in coming out of the hole or midrange.

I second that. It took all of your modifications to make mine accomplish that consistently.

I found that I personally didn't like the 3 blade on my 25. Too much blow out when cornering, etc. My preference was a 24 Bravo 1 or 23 Revolution 4. The Bravo gave more bow lift and the Revolution more stern. The 3 blade Mirage plus was the fastest but midrange really suffered. Bravo 1 was the best at cruise (by about 5-6 mph) but top speed suffered. The Revolution averaged both props and was my preference. I never tried a labbed prop.

Good Luck,
Bill

I have a 25p Mirage plus labbed to the accelerator design by Houston prop.
I used it for a year and it does blow out less than stock.
It has a couple of digs in it but still works great.
$150 if someone wants it.
It's too small for my boat with my new engine... :D

Re: Need a prop for a 25 outlaw

Glad to see someone else posts speeds over 65 for a 25ft Outlaw. Somehwere in the archives is a post claiming the hull wont go over 63.

I have a 99 with a 454MPI 385 with a 23 Mirage Plus. I want to GPS it, but I have picture from a Poker Run last fall with 2 adults, 4 kids (11-14) and a full tank of gas with the the Speedo showing 70 at 4900 as the helicopter was shooting us in a Poker Run. I have seen the Speedo at 73 at 5000, but like I said I want to GPS it.

Will the 4 blade make that big of a difference in the turns. I usually tuck the drive a little more on a real tight turn, but the blowout think is an issue. I don't make that many tight turns at high speed anyway.

I am curious to see how it works out for you, post the results!

works great on my 36 outlaw!!!!!!!!! AND YES 67 ON THE 25

Thanks Stan....for those of you in doubt, it was 67 on GPS and yes he was on the boat along with 1 other guy who we like to refer to as "BIG JOHN".....above the belt not below :)

Re: Need a prop for a 25 outlaw

Net gain,

I really dont notice any blowout with the 4 blade, of course I am not making high speed turns anyway since the family is normally in the boat with me on the weekends. I can tell you that the overall ride with the 4 blade was noticably better over the 3 blade and mid range/cruising speed was great.

Re: Need a prop for a 25 outlaw

a 23p mirage is probably your best choice for speed. i had a friend with a 25 outlaw and a 500hp. he used a 23, and i think he was around 5200rpms. he tried a 25 and it was a dog.
