Wow, that really is an interesting setup. I had no idea you had a V-drive in it. That definitely addresses my concerns about having the weight too far forward. The hook you are seeing was most likely put in to get it to run stable at the speeds you'd get with the S/B and no trim tabs. To truly get the most out of the boat with more power, you might need to take some of the hook out and run trim tabs to control it through the midrange.

TCELANO The front of my MTR.faces the stern . It's only 1 or 2" from the transom, about enough room to change a belt. But the heavy part of the MTR.,the flywheel , the bellhousing and the trans. are all forward in this setup. I'm mounting anything thats heavy,one battery on each side ,the trim tab pumps, the arneson trim pump, and the closed cooling heat exchanger ,and oil/trans cooler, and sea strainers as LOW as possible on the transom . Still interested in your thoughts on rocker on my hull, and what do you think about the potential with only a minimal amount of the lower portion of this hull being parallel to the water ????? thanks obads31

Without totally derailing this thread, I'd like to get your technical opinion on step bottom boats. I've been eyeing the Superboats Y2K for a while and just saw a pic of its bottom (pic is in this http://www2.hotboat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80029 thread).

Thoughts, opinions, comments?

Based on what I've read, the Y2K is a brilliantly fast, big (nearly 32' overall), rough water ready boat. If it indeed performs like everyone says, why don't more boats come with stepped bottoms? Am I missing something?

I have a slight rocker 1/8" in 5' and I thought I would start by strightning the bottom to flat. I have a stern jack and a procharger on a cruiser that is beginning to approach 50MPH but porpoising badely.
