Blocking off low water pick ups?
I just got my boat in that was ordered with no low water pick ups but upon arrival it has both low and side water pick ups? The question is.............Can I bondo or something to the low water pick up to stop it up and just use the side pick ups?
thanks, Shoe |
Re: Blocking off low water pick ups?
Yes you can stop up thr lower hole, but why do you want to do this. A friend of mine did and the water pressure dropped some and temps went up a little.

Re: Blocking off low water pick ups?
On my last boat, when I had a drive to puke, I switched from a side pick up to a low water pick up. I actually lost a little speed and seem to suck up sand and debris whereas I didnt have that problem before.
Thanks Shoe |
Re: Blocking off low water pick ups?
I think that Merc makes a block off kit for this, can't remeber where or when I heard this but ask a Merc dealer?

Re: Blocking off low water pick ups?
How about putting a nose cone over the LWP?

Re: Blocking off low water pick ups?
I haven't heard of people
having the problems with the dual water pick ups, than that they were having with the low water only pick up. You have a dual inlet source, ......if one should plug, the other can supply the water. ( you don't have just one, acting as a vacuum cleaner) Being that the sides have more ports, they are probably providing more water than the ones in front. I saw in another thread the you just got a new 30 outlaw........The one's I've seen have had a fairly high X dimension, you'll probably need the ports in the front to maintain decent water pressure. The LWP's we're 1.5 mph slower than the side water pick up on my boat. I doubt you'll have any problems with the dual's. |
Re: Blocking off low water pick ups?
the only true fix would be to tig it then surface using allmetal(aluminium filler) or equivalent. however on a dual water pick up you will have to machine the lower pickup's in order to maintain good volume and water pressure. good luck.
