If your talking about the water pressure relief valve.I had 2 of them installed on my 525's last fall.I'll get in the boat and look for the #, if it stops raining and post it.

They used to be only $100 a few months ago. Price increased to $240. Alot of money for a peice of plastic that Merc will sell you to control a problem they have with their product.

Re: Press Relief Valve Part #

Thats what I thought, I had remembered seeing them a while back for just over $100. Crookks...........!

Re: Press Relief Valve Part #

We sell them for $239.88, and have plenty in stock, Sorry about the price, Merc is very proud of them.

Stem to Stern has them for $106.90, INCLUDING shipping!!

I bought mine from Bam last November for $102.72. I can't understand why they more than doubled in price there.

Re: Press Relief Valve Part #

Guy's, we don't set the factories prices, unfortunately Merc more than doubled the price in January when they did the annual increase.

Most likely Stem to Stern has not updated their on-line pricebook, I don't blame you one little bit if they will really sell it today at that price, but I promise Merc's new list price is $281.15

I just got two!! Paid $106.90 for each. Thanks for the tip Mudball! They sent me an order one day and the next day got an extra order!! Unfortunetly they charged me both times, but for that price I'll keep the extra!! :D

I see that they have updated there prices!! I was excited about Stem to Stearn, but now I don't know!

I'm glad a few of you were able to get the old pricing!!
===
Now look at the new pricing and tell me one thing, if you have one of these...
Is that piece that you are looking at worth $200+ bucks!?!?!?

While the Merc units work well, the pressure relief is variable. Some have mentioned 29-30 psi operation, while mine opens at 25psi. I would like to see it somewhere in the low 20's.

There is research going on for an adjustable version. Maybe near the Merc old original cost....

Remove the cap and install a lighter spring?

Possibly, but how would you calibrate it?

I am hoping there will be an adjustable version soon. It is aftermarket. Not made by me, but I will be helping to test it on the water.

I going to try this setup on my boat this weekend.

Re: Press Relief Valve Part #

Python82,

That is exactly what I was going to try if I wasn't able to buy the Merc valve for a "reasonable price"!!!

Mudball 04-05-2005 11:09 AM

Re: Press Relief Valve Part #

Python, please post back if that works!

I would be concerned with the 1/2" size dump, but that might just be enough...

Re: Press Relief Valve Part #

I'm going to install a pressure gauge as well. What pressure should I try for at WOT?

Mudball 04-05-2005 11:37 AM

Re: Press Relief Valve Part #

I like to see around 20 psi.
===
With the Merc valve in my setup, when the valve opens, it pulses water out about six feet out the dump! And this is a 1" hose and dump!
But, it's pulsing out, instead of a steady stream, so maybe the 1/2" will be enough.
===
Let's all hope that part works!!

Re: Press Relief Valve Part #

I think you would need 2 of those if using a crossover and no circulation pump. I used a similar valve from McMaster Carr and wound up with two in the system. One is set a slightly higher pressure than the other. Sort of balance so one is full open at 10 PSI and then the other one start opening at 15 or so. This results in pressures of 5 at idle and steadily builds to about 18 at 3000 rpm and may see 19 at WOT. Just have to balance them. I ported both 1/2 to a 3/4 dump aimed at the top cap of the Bravo.

Different size spring wire. Or possibly make a new cap with an adjusting screw to vary the spring pressure. But then who wants to spend $200 then have to modify it?

The valve in the CPPerformance link is what I tried. It is a Watts brand valve. I bought mine from Teague for a mere $100 with a fitting a few yrs ago. All these dealers use the same Watts valve, then mark up the price at unbelievable prices. Mine was the 1/2" and no where big enough. Even at full open, it still would not dump enough water to lower my pressure. A 3/4" min. will be needed. I seen these same valves for $20-30??

Links to valves at Grainger. I'm sure they are available elsewhere.

Here is a link to 1" valves I used.

Here is a link to a 3/4" valve that I have seen used.
