496HO Oil Temp Sender???

I believe I need to find a better (proper) location for my oil temp senders. I have found them on the top of the block behind the intake manifold. It is in a "T" and both the oil pressure and temp are using the same port. My gauge temp starts at 140 and I rarely see the needle move, I know this is not right. I was hoping to find a place to tap near the remote oil filter, but no such luck. Any suggestions?

I am not the original owner and I can't believe this didn't bother anyone else. I just like things to work right.

Re: 496HO Oil Temp Sender???

I think I may have an idea on how to solve the problem. In looking at a breakdown of the block, it appears that there are 2 locations for an oil pressure sender. One on the top/back of the block and another just above the oil filter mount on the side of the block. So with my pressure sender on top, I am going to try and use the port just above the filter base. I think this should be fairly accurate also since hopefully it will be measured just before it exits to the filter.

Had the same issue with my HO's. Sunsation sent me a kit that solves this problem. A spacer that fits between the oil filter and mount that has a boss for a probe. I think the part was made by innovation marine. I'll double check when I get home.

Re: 496HO Oil Temp Sender???

I got sick and tired of buzzers and alarms going off in my boat.
The solution is to disconnect all the wires you can find near any sender on the engine. I also snipped most of the wires behind the helm and that helped too. I have quiet, trouble-free boating now as most of my gauges don't work. I hated worrying all the time about temperature and pressure readings. Now I can concentrate on enjoying my time out on the water.

Quality Time,

If you don't mind, check and see who made your adaptor. I have searched for such a piece and haven't found anything. It seems that both ports have senders, I guess the computer uses a different sender from the gauge. I was just hoping for an easy fix.

Thanks,
Bill
